Sherborne is known for its Abbey and its market-town charm. It's about to become known for something else too: a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and cutting-edge technology.

The Turing Project will bring jobs, investment and tourism to the town, while giving young people direct access to the skills, mentors and opportunities that shape real careers in science and technology.

At its heart, the Centre is about wellbeing as much as ambition: helping young people build confidence in the choices ahead of them, and resilience in a world that can otherwise feel overwhelming.

Why Sherborne

Long before he cracked the Enigma code, shortened the war and helped lay the foundations of modern computing, Alan Turing's brilliance was ignited as a pupil at Sherborne School.

If Bletchley Park was where he changed history, Sherborne was where it all began.

That connection gives this project its purpose. We're not building a museum to a man who has already been celebrated elsewhere, we're building on the ground where his curiosity first took root, and turning it into somewhere the next Turing can do the same.

Alan Turing is widely regarded as the father of modern computing and cryptology. His work at Bletchley Park is credited with shortening the Second World War and saving millions of lives, and his post-war thinking laid much of the groundwork for the digital world we live in today.

Yet for most of his life, his achievements went largely unrecognised and he was persecuted for who he was, dying before the country he had done so much to protect could properly honour him. A posthumous royal pardon in 2013 went some way to acknowledging that injustice.

The Turing Project exists to make sure his story, the brilliance and the injustice alike, is never forgotten, and to turn his legacy into something living: a place of curiosity, invention and second chances for the young people who come after him.
